Report on Fur Excellence in Athens

April 6, 2017

The 7th annual Fur Excellence in Athens (FEA) International Fur Fair concluded April 2, 2017, after three successful days of promotion and trade. Organized by the Hellenic Association of Furriers (HAF), the event was held at the Metropolitan Expo Centre in Athens.

According to organizers, the number of exhibitors at FEA doubled over last year, including several new entrants from Italy and Turkey. The number of visitors and buyers also increased by an estimated 30%, with the majority attending from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Turkey, and a smaller number hailing from Korea and North America.

The Gala Show kicked off the FEA on the night of March 30 with an elegant evening at an Athens Museum and Art Gallery, showcasing select Greek fur collections and featuring a Studio NAFA retrospective to live music. The energy and enthusiasm established during the Gala Show carried through to the opening day.

This year, organizers reduced the expo from four days to three, prompting buyers to begin placing orders as early as the first day. Daily runway shows allowed exhibitors to highlight their collections on a central stage, and many of NAFA’s strongest Greek clients showcased their collections of Black NAFA, NAFA Mink, NAFA Fox and NAFA Northern Wild Furs.

The buying enthusiasm established on day one was sustained through the afternoon of the final day, with most exhibitors reporting that they were “satisfied” or “very happy” with the results, citing top quality Black NAFA mink, bright shades of dyed mutation mink, as well as bobcat and sable as main items of interest.

During the fair, Vasilis Kardasis hosted a three-day Fur Excellence workshop for 11 young finalists of the Greek Young Designers’ competition.  The three contest winners were selected and presented with their awards, which includes a fully paid trip to participate in the week-long Studio NAFA workshop in Toronto this August.

NAFA was pleased, once again, to be the Grand Sponsor of this Fair, and was well represented at FEA by Bobby Poulios, VP of Buyer Relations, Oksana Moroz, Marketing Director – Eastern Europe and Ekaterina Popova, Marketing Representative – Russia.

Fur Excellence in Athens 2018 will take place March 23-25.
