On January 16, 2018, BIFE (Beijing International Fur and Leather Products Exhibition) opened at the China National Convention Center in Beijing.
The NAFA booth attracted a constant flow of visitors who lingered to study the showcase of creative fur techniques, fur samples, and fur garments from NAFA’s cooperation with designers such as Gianfranco Ferré Furs, Shulan International Fur, and Harbin Guifuren Fur Square.
Later that evening, winners of the 2018 NAFA Cup Design Competition were announced, and fairgoers were treated to a NAFA fur fashion show, both as part of the annual opening night gala. The theme of the gala this year was “Fushion Night”, highlighting the intersection of fur and fashion.
After rigorous selection process by expert jury members, the final winners of 2018 NAFA Cup are:
- Gold Award: Yang Jing, from Inner Mongolia Normal University
- Silver Award: Sun Dechun, from Jilin Animation Institute
- Bronze Award: Meng Siyang, from University of the Arts London
- Ready-to-Wear Award: Cheng Long, from Jiangxi Institute of Fashion Technology
The awards were presented by Mr. John McCallum, Canadian Ambassador to China, Mr. Mark Oaten, CEO of IFF, and Mr. Rob Cahill, Senior Vice President, International Marketing, NAFA. The top three winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Studio NAFA in 2018.
NAFA took over sponsorship of the China International Youth Fur Design Competition in 2009, and today, the NAFA Cup is one of the largest fur design competitions in China, credited with having developed and discovered some of the brightest new design talents in the industry.
Following the NAFA Cup Design Competition’s show and awards ceremony, NAFA presented a dazzling fur fashion show, featuring designers/brands including Li Yixuan, Harbin Guifuren Fur Square, Langiotti, Gianfranco Ferré Furs, Oscar de la Renta. Each of the designs featured were created from NAFA’s top quality furs, including NAFA Fox, NAFA Northern, NAFA Mink and Black NAFA.
In keeping with the gala theme, two of the major fur trends that were showcased during the fashion show were knitting and splicing techniques, such as weaving, stitching, intarsia, and the interlacing of fur and other fabrics. These techniques vividly demonstrated the versatility and pliability of the fur fabric, displaying further that in addition to providing warmth, fur is a fabric that adds depth, versatility and creative design for all seasons.
